While battling to escape from a veritable mountain of debt, the Baltimore Grand Prix has had to work fast in finding a new promoter that can pull off a second running of the race.

A few weeks ago, there came word that multiple groups were positioning themselves to take the place of Baltimore Racing Development, the former, financially challenged promoter of last year's inaugural race in the Inner Harbor. Now, it appears that one entity has the inside line on taking over the BGP, as according to a piece out today by Baltimore Sun reporters Julie Scharper and Luke Broadwater, sources have Indianapolis-based building contractor Dale Dillon as the only bidder that Baltimore's administration is negotiating with.

The clock is running for Charm City as it attempts to put a new promoter in place that will have enough time to get everything else ready by Labor Day weekend, when the race is run. Baltimore city councilman William Cole IV, a major supporter of the event, told the Baltimore Business Journal that a new organizer needs to be in place within the next several weeks or face a "point of no return."
