Pit road incident mars #HondaIndy opening practice

Two Dragon Racing crew members were transported to a Toronto hospital after a scary incident in Friday’s first practice for the Honda Indy Toronto.

In the opening minutes of the session, Dale Coyne Racing driver Justin Wilson slid through his pit box and wound up going into the back of Sebastien Bourdais’ Dragon Racing machine, hitting four crew members (three from Dragon, one from DCR) in the process.

According to More Front Wing, which is on the ground in Toronto this weekend, Dragon crewmen Raffi Aroyan and Chuck Homan were taken to St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto for injury evaluations. MFW also reports that a third Dragon crewman, Daniel Martin, as well as DCR crewman Michael Cole, have both been checked and released.

Wilson’s morning got even worse in the final minutes of the session as he was forced to go into the Turn 8 tires in order to avoid hitting Alex Tagliani, who had spun out at the same corner.

Defending Toronto champion Dario Franchitti led the morning practice with a time of 60.89 seconds, narrowly besting Target Chip Ganassi Racing teammate Scott Dixon and rookie Simon Pagenaud.
