The second morning practice for Sunday’s Sao Paulo Indy 300 was a bit less clean than the first.
Helio Castroneves sustained significant left side damage on his No. 3 Team Penske Chevrolet after hitting the wall at the Turn 1-2 chicane early in the session. Also bringing out red flags in the session were Takuma Sato and Josef Newgarden, who ended the session after bumping into the tire barriers at the Turn 11 hairpin.
Three-time defending series champion Dario Franchitti, who’s still looking to jump-start his 2012 campaign, topped the charts in practice two with a time of 82.2611 seconds in the No. 10 Target Honda. Following him was two-time defending Sao Paulo winner Will Power in second and Andretti Autosport’s Ryan Hunter-Reay in third.
Qualifying is set to go off at 1:05 pm ET. Audio and timing/scoring will be on INDYCAR.com, while the session will be aired later tonight at 6 pm ET on NBC Sports Network.
