Will Power wins pole at Mid-Ohio

Will Power earned himself a valuable championship point after taking the pole position for tomorrow’s Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Power, who currently sits third in the standings, earned his 27th career pole after posting a fast lap of 65.6474 seconds in the Firestone Fast Six.

With the one point for pole, Power is now 25 points behind leader Ryan Hunter-Reay and four behind second-place Helio Castroneves going into tomorrow’s event (12:30 pm ET, ABC).

Power will be joined by Dario Franchitti on the front row, with rookie Simon Pagenaud set to start in third position. Alex Tagliani qualified fourth this morning but will have to start 14th after incurring a 10-spot grid penalty for an unapproved engine change. That means Scott Dixon will likely slide into the outside of the second row when the official starting grid comes out.

More to come later tonight/early tomorrow morning…
