All Indy 500 rookies pass orientation

Early in the three o’clock hour this afternoon at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Bryan Herta Autosport driver Sebastian Saavedra became the final rookie to pass the four Rookie Orientation Program speed phases.

Sarah Fisher Racing driver Jay Howard has turned the fastest lap by a rookie today at the Speedway, turning a lap at 222.789 m.p.h. in the No. 66 car. Howard also topped the rookie class in yesterday’s Opening Day proceedings.

Veterans got onto the track at 2:15 p.m. ET, 45 minutes ahead of schedule. As of 3:30 p.m. ET, Scott Dixon of Target Chip Ganassi Racing had turned the fastest lap of the day at 226.2 m.p.h. in the primary No. 9 car.
