Curt Cavin of The Indianapolis Star is reporting that the IZOD IndyCar Series has thrown out an Indy 500 rule that forced drivers who crashed a qualified car to lose their starting position and start at the rear of the field. Now, teams can break out the backup cars without further penalty; apparently, a smashed-up Dallara is punishment enough (they aren’t cheap, ya know!)…

The hubbub over the series’ new oval and road/street sub-championships seems to have died down, but Larry Woody of RacinToday.com still thinks the idea is silly. He goes on to question the League for leaving Nashville Superspeedway behind and puts up a contender for ‘Worst Written Burn of 2010’: “They need to re-think their marketing plan. Maybe ‘re-think’ is not the right word; I’m not sure much thinking went into it from the start.” Better get some ointment for that…
