Sato transported to hospital after practice crash

A hard crash in Turn 2 is sending KV Racing Technology rookie Takuma Sato to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. The Japanese driver is slated for x-rays and evaluation due to tenderness in his back according to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Sato’s No. 5 LOTUS machine spun out going into Turn 2 and slammed hard into the wall, back-end first. The rear end of the car was destroyed in the incident, but Sato was able to get out of the car and walk away.

However, more trouble may be in store for his team. Planet-IRL.com’s Paul Dalbey is at the track today and he’s passed along word via Twitter that, according to Indy Racing League technical director Kevin Blanch, there is no backup car for Sato. We’ll keep you posted…
