Determining the subject for my post-Bump Day piece on FoxSports.com was a no-brainer. The fact that a former IndyCar champion like Tony Kanaan was not qualified for the Indianapolis 500 with one hour remaining is still surreal, even though he did get in the show. This time last week, we were calling him as a lock for the “Fast Nine” pole shootout. Instead, he wrecked two cars in two days, his crew needed parts from the cars of his teammates to repair the backup, and he was constantly on the verge of losing it again in practice mode.
It all worked out in the end, but it just goes to show that nothing is for certain on Bump Day at the Brickyard. You can check out my story on Kanaan’s day (as well as the decision that cost Paul Tracy a spot in the field) over at FoxSports.com. I hope you dig it!
