Andretti Autosport’s Tony Kanaan will be starting from the 33rd starting position in Sunday’s Indianapolis 500. According to Curt Cavin of The Indianapolis Star and WFNI 1070 The Fan, the team has elected to go with the now-repaired primary car for TK in the race. Last Saturday, it was damaged in a crash — which started a wild saga for Kanaan that saw him have another wreck with his backup machine and be forced to qualify with less than an hour to go on Bump Day in that repaired ‘T’ entry.
As Cavin details on his blog, the drivers were allowed to maintain their starting position if they crashed the car they qualified after qualifications — Kanaan’s crack-up was before then and he voluntarily switched cars.
