Next season, the official fuel of NASCAR will also become the official fuel of the Indy Racing League.
Sunoco, well-known amongst open-wheel racing fans for backing the 1972 Indy 500-winning car of Mark Donahue and Roger Penske, will team up with APEX-Brasil, the IRL’s official ethanol supplier, and UNICA (the Brazilian Sugarcane Industry Association) to promote both IndyCar and Indy Lights/Road To Indy. The deal will last from 2011 to 2014.
“We are pleased to announce this partnership with Sunoco, a company with a great deal of passion for motorsports,” said IndyCar CEO Randy Bernard in a press release. “We feel our key brand attributes of innovation, technology and greening align well with Sunoco and will provide a great retail platform to jointly promote the sport. We’re looking forward to working with Sunoco on creating in-store and at-pump activation initiatives to raise awareness of the IZOD Indy Car Series.”
