Indy 500 final practice is underway right now at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and will be going for another 40 minutes or so. It’s a nice crowd that’s assembled here, and it figures to get better as the day goes on. The Firestone Indy Lights Freedom 100 will go off after this practice session, followed by the Indy 500 pit stop challenge and the Carb Day concert that features rock legends ZZ Top at 3:30 p.m. ET.
I apologize for the late blog post, but I had to put the final touches on an Indy 500 preview piece for FoxSports.com. Yesterday, I wrote on three dark horses that may have a decent chance at winning on Sunday — Alex Tagliani, Graham Rahal, and Ed Carpenter. You can find that story here.
I’m gathering notes for a Carb Day notebook on FoxSports.com, but I’ll check in here throughout the day with bits and pieces too. This morning, Roger Penske and Chip Ganassi were in the Media Center talking about their gentlemanly rivalry and what’s needed to help the sport continue its process of rebirth. Unfortunately, my recording is hit or miss in terms of sound, but once I get the transcript, I’ll gladly throw in some stuff from that conference right here.
Stay tuned to IndyRacingRevolution.com and twitter.com/estradawriting for updates throughout the afternoon! And if you’re in or around Indianapolis, remember to come out and have some fun with the May Indy Tweetup folks this evening at Curt Cavin’s Carb Night Burger Bash! It’s going down starting at 6:30 p.m. over at 96th Street Steakburgers. Click here for the address and details (and bring money to fill up on steakburgers and milkshakes, of course).
