Okay, first thing’s first. Yes, I do know that Tomas Scheckter will be driving the No. 24 Dreyer and Reinbold car at Toronto next weekend. And yes, I also know that J.R. “Captain America” Hildebrand will finally get to drive some IZOD IndyCar Series races with DRR in the No. 24 at Mid-Ohio and Infineon — well, maybe just Mid-Ohio, because the injured Mike Conway could be back in his regular ride for the latter event.
I’d also like to apologize for the lack of blogging not just lately, but throughout the season. Yours truly has been torn between working in the elements as a maintenance man, freelancing opportunities, writing for FoxSports.com, and sending out resumes to everywhere but Timbuktu in hopes of landing a full-time job at a media outlet. Quite frankly, there have been some days where the last thing I felt like doing was blogging because I was either fried from work or something else. So I’ve taken breaks. But I think I’ve taken them for periods of time that have been too long. I’m sorry for that.
Unfortunately, I’m going to have to declare another short period of inactivity — namely, this weekend. But there’s a good reason for this one: I’m moving.
My time here in Maryland has been, to put it nicely, character-building. While it has been wonderful getting to see family and hang out with them more often, I can say that I found myself more and more unhappy as time grew on. This is mostly because of being unable to land the aforementioned media job; I’ve wanted to be a sports reporter since I was six years old. But as we all know, the industry is in hard times. Nothing broke for me, so I got by as best I could as a maintenance man.
Earlier this week, I was laid off from that post. The residents of the condo that I worked on decided they no longer needed somebody to blow out leaves from their parking lots and sidewalks everyday. While I was shocked, I’m still grateful that Village Management took me on and allowed me to work for them. They are truly great people and I’ll miss them all.
Now out of a job, I pondered what to do next. I knew I had to leave Maryland, but where was I going to go? My father, when he found out my predicament, gave me a hard sell about coming out to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he’s been for a while. I haven’t seen Dad in a while and if he was willing to help me until I got on my feet, I figured, ‘Why not?’
So I will be driving throughout the weekend from Harford County, Maryland to the Land of Enchantment. If all goes according to plan, I’ll be in ABQ on Monday night. That’ll leave Tuesday for unpacking and sorting things out, then Wednesday (cue the trumpets) — NEW CAR DAY! For IndyCar, I mean. Not me.
It’ll be a hectic next few days, so please bear with me. I’ll see if I can tweet updates along the way when I can; just click the ‘T’ icon in the Social Media box or follow me on Twitter at @estradawriting.
Thank you for your continued support of Indy Racing Revolution.
