For the fifth year in a row, the IZOD IndyCar Series championship will be determined in the final race. But while there have been plenty of constants (Team Penske, Target Chip Ganassi Racing, Dario Franchitti) over this time frame, this year’s title battle has one key new element: Will Power.
Power has seen his once-commanding lead over Franchitti in the standings dwindle to a mere 12 points. But the Aussie’s trademark cool remains intact going into Saturday’s season finale. As for Franchitti, he’s got plenty of experience in these situations — yet his approach remains the same. With two straight IndyCar titles (his NASCAR experiment in 2008 notwithstanding), who’s gonna argue that he needs to change things?
