Deciding a championship is serious business. And when you have two contenders like Will Power and Dario Franchitti, the matter gets even more serious.
Today begins the weekend that will determine which one of these drivers will walk away with the 2010 IZOD IndyCar Series championship. But I figured, “Why not have something light to start this morning? One last bit of fluff before we get down to the nitty gritty?”
Of course, IndyCar.com has the perfect thing for me: A nice little video of Cameron Haven, the IZOD trophy girl, talking about how she got the job. IZOD may have botched on the championship trophy (remember, they commissioned and collaborated with its creator, Ted Gall), but I haven’t heard one complaint from the base about their decision to make Haven the face of Victory Lane.
So there you go. Cute little post with a cute little video. Done and done. But some plans don’t work out perfectly.
Scroll down to the bottom of Curt Cavin’s notes today and you’ll see something that makes you think that Panther Racing will be looking for a new driver next season:
“Wheldon and Panther Racing apparently won’t be parting on the best of terms after this race. Filing as DW Motorsports, Wheldon has a lawsuit pending in Marion County Superior Court against Panther Racing LLC and John Barnes Racing. The suit, apparently involving a contract dispute between the British driver and team owner John Barnes, was filed Aug. 18.”
Yeah, that’s not pleasant. In any case, the team has stated that Wheldon may return to the No. 4 despite rumors to the contrary that have been rumbling for a while now. That came after the former Indy 500 and series champ muttered something about looking for a job next year on Versus after last month’s race at Kentucky Speedway.
But it appears that we’ll be expecting some stories from the courtroom over the offseason.
Dang, that’s a grim note to end a post on. I think I’ll put up the Cameron Haven video anyway…Oh, there’s some Brazilian guy on there, too. He apparently likes to goof off a little.

I understand that a post that puts together news of a lawsuit and a video of a trophy girl does seem a bit haphazard. Let’s just chalk it up to me not having my coffee yet…
