The ABC-TV broadcast has just given word that the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg will go off tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. ET and will be broadcast on ESPN2. IMS Radio Network reporter Kevin Lee had tweeted minutes earlier that the race would not go off today due to the continuing inclement weather in the Tampa Bay region.
UPDATE (4:20 p.m. ET): Andretti Autosport’s Tony Kanaan, who will start on the front row tomorrow, told ESPN’s Jamie Little to expect a lively affair on Monday.
“I think it’s gonna bring more to the show,” he told Little. “When we raced here two years ago, when I was on the pole, we did half of the race under rain conditions, so I think it’ll be more exciting for the fans if it’s wet — but not too wet…
“…With a green track, we can see lots of surprises…it’s going to be exciting for all of us.”
UPDATE (4:31 p.m. ET): The IRL’s official web site has put out an article on today’s race being postponed, which includes a quote from Newman/Haas/Lanigan Racing’s Hideki Mutoh: “I think it was a good decision to postpone the race for the safety of the fans and the teams. If we were to go out and try to race, maybe there would only be one car that would finish. The fans deserve to see a good race, so I hope the ones that were here are able to come back.”
