Report: Barrichello eyes second year in IndyCar

But he may not return to KV Racing Technology in 2013

Rubens Barrichello’s jump to the IZOD IndyCar Series was greeted with lots of hoopla, but the former F1 standout hasn’t had a great first season with KV Racing Technology. As a result, Barrichello may be heading for a new home in 2013.

According to an Autosport report
, the Brazilian driver could go as far as switching to the Honda camp as he has had “advanced talks” with at least one Honda-powered team about a 2013 ride.

Barrichello is no doubt looking to make his way up the pecking order and his strong sponsorship package would come in handy in that regard. So far in 2012, he has collected five top-10s but hasn’t been a factor for wins as many expected him to be. He currently sits 17th in points.

As a 40-year-old competitor, you can’t blame him for wanting one more run at the front before his career is over. And if you think about it, he’s not lacking for options in regards to going to a better team. His sponsors could go a long way toward creating a second car for him at Schmidt/Hamilton alongside Simon Pagenaud or toward moving into Graham Rahal’s current slot on Chip Ganassi’s “G2” team (as Rahal is now a free agent for 2013).
