A final farewell from @EdmontonIndy

Calling themselves “choked and gutted” over the end of their IZOD IndyCar Series event, the Edmonton Indy commended fans for their support of the race on their Twitter account.

“Thanks all for the words of support,” the event said in a series of tweets. “Choked and gutted are 2 words that come to mind. It’s hard to play a game when the goalposts are moving. Hopefully a new venue with a gov’t that is welcoming will be announced soon. I guess our name will change as well. Any city requests?”

Vancouver and Calgary have been mentioned as potential sites for replacement in the wake of the Edmonton Indy’s demise. The Alberta metropolis has confirmed that the race will not return in 2011. As of now, the Honda Indy Toronto is the lone Canadian stop on the IndyCar circuit.

@EdmontonIndy appeared set to sign off with this final message: “So, with this last tweet under this name, we bid you all well in all of your futures and keep the racing spirit alive in Canada!”
