Bean Machine: Iowa

1. TK’s return to Victory Lane. Tony Kanaan breaks a two-year win drought and continues the resurgence of Andretti Autosport in 2010. Extra points for dedicating the win to his son on Father’s Day. PLUS 12.

2. E.J. gets first IndyCar podium. While he couldn’t prevent another expensive afternoon for his KV Racing Technology squad, E.J. Viso salvaged the team’s pride after their two other drivers, Mario Moraes and rookie Takuma Sato, crashed out of the race. PLUS 5.

3. Power back on the point. Will Power retook the IZOD IndyCar Series championship lead with a fifth-place effort last Sunday. With the next five races on road and street circuits, the Aussie oughta be licking his chops at a prime opportunity to strengthen his hold on the title. PLUS 3.

4. Sato strikes out again. This time, Takuma Sato wrecks while running in third position at Lap 177. Another solid oval run (see Kansas) goes by the boards for him. MINUS 5.

5. One more race for RHR. Ryan Hunter-Reay puts on the Ethanol colors again and finishes eighth. His season won’t end there, as he’ll be racing on July 4 up at Watkins Glen. PLUS 4.

6. More Milka madness. Milka Duno nearly causes a calamity when she almost makes contact with then-leader Will Power in the race’s early stages. She goes out on Lap 31 due to ‘handling’ after giving the IndyCar fans more reason to use the #parkmilka hashtag on Twitter. MINUS 9.

This week’s tally: +10 beans.

Season tally (after eight events): +62 beans.
