Crash of the year?

You guys remember this crash above, don’t you? That was Dario Franchitti going on an unexpected flight down the backstretch of Michigan International Speedway in 2007 — a wild ride that was topped just weeks later when he ran over Kosuke Matsuura after the checkers and flew into the Turn 1 wall at Kentucky Speedway.

Franchitti’s twin flips in 2007 are up there amongst the most gnarliest incidents in recent auto racing history. But the Scotsman has some company this morning, and it’s Formula 2 driver Ricardo Teixeira, who got sky-high yesterday in a race at Marrakesh, Morocco. I’m happy to pass along word that Teixeira emerged from his crash in one piece.

He’ll have one hell of a story to tell his grandkids one day. See his flip below:
