This morning’s final warmup session for the Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio (2:30 p.m. ET, Versus) didn’t go without incident as Trackside Online is reporting that one of Mario Moraes’ crew members was taken away on a stretcher following an incident in the team’s pit box.
Moraes tweeted about the incident and it looks like he’s taking fault. He said: “I feel so bad. Coming to the pits, I hit my fuel guy…He is ok but this is not good at all.”
KV Racing Technology later passed along word on their own Twitter account that three members of Moraes’ team were “injured during [a] pit incident during warmup,” but that all X-rays were negative and the crew members had been checked and released from the infield care center.
UPDATE (9:35 a.m. ET): We have names on those three KVRT crew members, thanks to the Indianapolis Star’s Curt Cavin. Mike Briggs (fueler), Chris Bennett (left front tire changer) and Anna Chatten (air jack) were involved in this morning’s incident. Cavin also reports that the team is ‘expecting’ to have crew member changes for Moraes’ entry during the event today.
