A crash on Lap 199 involving Mike Conway and Ryan Hunter-Reay ended the Indianapolis 500 under caution and gave the victory to Dario Franchitti.
Conway and Hunter-Reay wound up making contact and the former was launched over the top of the latter’s left wheel. That sent Conway’s machine flipping and then into the fence, destroying the car and leaving not much more than a tub. However, Conway was able to get out of the car with the help of the safety team and waved to the crowd according to multiple reports.
