No, I didn’t sleep on the announcement of Simona de Silvestro going to HVM Racing and the IZOD IndyCar Series. I was just busy churning out a piece on the subject for FoxSports.com. In it, I talk about her and the team’s hopes for 2010 as well as the fans’ hopes of her becoming a star and possibly mixing it up in the lead pack with Danica Patrick — which would make for a buzzworthy battle in my opinion.
When I think about it, I also answer the question I posed to myself in my “Thoughts on the Open Test” post from last week. I wondered if the buzz around de Silvestro comes from the potential that a De Silvestro-Patrick rivalry would create or if it actually comes from a growing animosity against the latter, who is gaining more buzz for her stock car exploits these days.
