I’m still dealing with a burning forehead, goosebumps all over my arms and legs, and a persistent headache, but I think I need to post something considering it’s event weekend. Note to all of you: If you don’t want to be a warm, shivering mess like yours truly, then I would buy Airborne pills and start taking them a week before your next flight. I’m convinced that I caught something on the plane last weekend from Boston…You bet I’ll have Airborne with me from now on.
Anyway, the IZOD IndyCar Series is at the only short oval of the campaign — the 7/8-mile Iowa Speedway in Newton, Iowa. We’ve seen some good racing here at the bullring, which defies its short-track distance by racing more like the high-speed ovals that are more prevalent on the circuit. This week, the drivers will get 24 push-to-pass boosts at 10 seconds each with a 12 second ‘blackout’ between uses. As for tires, Firestone is bringing an all-new left side compound that’s still similar to the tire used in last month’s Indy 500, while the right side of the car will have the company’s superspeedway spec tires for 2010.
I understand that Star Mazda, USF2000, and Firestone Indy Lights had practice sessions last night at Iowa, so here’s the rest of the schedule for the weekend. All times local.
