Dario Franchitti has notched his second victory of the 2010 IZOD IndyCar Series championship, winning the Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course by roughly half a second over points leader Will Power.
Franchitti’s triumph cut Power’s edge over him in the title fight to 41 points with five races remaining in the season. However, by simply starting this afternoon’s event, Power was able to capture the Mario Andretti Trophy as this year’s IndyCar road/street course champion.
Helio Castroneves bounced back from his post-race problems in Edmonton, Alberta two weeks ago by finishing third today. An early pit strategy call proved to be huge for Alex Tagliani, who leaped up the pylon and led 30 laps before settling for fourth. Scott Dixon, Franchitti’s teammate at Target Chip Ganassi Racing, finished fifth.
The top ten were rounded out by Ryan Briscoe, Raphael Matos, Simona de Silvestro, Marco Andretti, and Ryan Hunter-Reay.
