In a bit of not-so-shocking news, IZOD IndyCar Series engine supplier Honda has announced that they’ll go along with the new engine platform set to debut in the 2012 season.
At that point, the Big H will start building a 2.4-liter, twin-turbocharged V-6 engine — which will replace their current V-8 offering. Honda has been IndyCar’s sole supplier of powerplants since the 2006 campaign.
The new engine platform, announced by the Indy Racing League’s ICONIC Advisory Committee in June, will call for manufacturers to create turbocharged engines with up to six cylinders, a maximum displacement of 2.4 cubic liters, and a horsepower range between 550 and 700.
