After helping fan favorite Simona de Silvestro claim second place in the IZOD IndyCar Series rookie of the year standings, HVM Racing will look to face a new challenge in 2011.

The Indianapolis-based team, led by Keith Wiggins, will be expanding to include an American Le Mans Series program. According to a report from RACER Magazine, Wiggins has declared the intention to enter a prototype in next year’s championship and is considering drivers and engines at this point. The report also says that he’ll likely utilize a Lola chassis for his new ALMS entry.

Wiggins denied having any intention of leaving open-wheel racing, but told RACER that he thought “it makes sense for our team not to have its eggs in one basket.”
