After crashing his primary car yesterday during a qualifying run, Tony Kanaan has sustained major damage to his backup No. 11T machine this morning.
The 2004 IZOD IndyCar Series champion’s bad luck at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway continues after he crashed in between Turns 1 and 2 before the midway point of the one-hour practice session. According to the Speedway, Kanaan climbed out of the car without medical assistance. A look at the car being hauled away revealed major rear-end damage.
The IRL has since reported that Kanaan was checked at the infield care center and then released. He has been cleared to drive.
We’ll see what Andretti Autosport elects to do here. Will they try to repair the damage or will they grab a backup car from one of their other drivers? Bill Zahren of Pressdog.com is at the track today, and he seems to believe that it will be the latter.
Practice is slated to end at 10 a.m. ET this morning, with Bump Day activity going from Noon to 6 p.m. ET.
