Morning reading: May 13, 2010

Two days left until the cars are on the track at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway…let’s see what kind of stories are out there today.

Obviously, with Danica Patrick being on this week’s League teleconference, there’s scads of stories on her plans for the ‘500.’ Here are a few of those from SI.com, Autosport, and the Associated Press…and oh yeah, my Patrick story is just below this post. Check that out too, please.

Indy 500 pioneer Janet Guthrie is also talking about the progression of female drivers in the sport. Five women could be racing at Indy this month, which is a pretty neat feat indeed. You can check out Dave Lewandowski’s story on the subject over at the Speedway’s snazzy new web site.

Sticking with the ladies, the IZOD IndyCar Series’ first female star is putting out a book. Sarah Fisher and publisher Beauford Books have released “99 Things Women Wish They Knew Before Getting Behind The Wheel Of Their Dream Job.” Check out the press release/details here, which will also tell you where you can buy it.

Championship leader Will Power was up in Edmonton to promote the series’ July round in the Canadian metropolis. Joanne Ireland of the Edmonton Journal picked his brain on how he ascended to his current role with Team Penske and also about what he sees for the future of the Edmonton Indy. The Journal expands upon the latter topic with an accompanying column from Dan Barnes.

Finally, John Oreovicz of ESPN.com takes us through the alphabet.
