Multiple teams testing at Kansas this week

Kansas Speedway, the next stop on the IZOD IndyCar Series schedule, will see plenty of testing in the next few days as drivers and teams prepare for the Road Runner Turbo Indy 300 on Sat., May 1 (1:30 p.m. ET, ABC) — the first oval event of the 2010 season.

Slated to test today on the 1.5-mile oval are Helio Castroneves and Ryan Briscoe of Team Penske, Raphael Matos of Luczo Dragon Racing/de Ferran Motorsports, and Jay Howard of Sarah Fisher Racing. Howard, a former Firestone Indy Lights champion, will make his first start of the season at Kansas.

Tomorrow, Dan Wheldon of Panther Racing and E.J. Viso and Mario Moraes of KV Racing Technology will get in laps, as will John Andretti of Andretti Autosport. John will be competing at Kansas and the Indianapolis 500 in a car co-owned by NASCAR legend Richard Petty.

Friday’s testing appears strictly for the rookies, with four first-year pilots expected to run: Simona de Silvestro of HVM Racing, Takuma Sato of KVRT, and Mario Romancini and Bertrand Baguette of Conquest Racing.

Unfortunately for you fans in the Kansas City region, these tests will be closed to spectators.
