Report: Kanaan to De Ferran Dragon?

De Ferran Dragon Racing is set to make their 2011 announcement this coming Monday, with a teleconference scheduled for that morning.

For the last few weeks, rumors have been heating up that former IZOD IndyCar Series champion Tony Kanaan would join the squad and become a veteran teammate to young gun Rafa Matos. Kanaan tested with DFD at Sebring International Raceway last month, but he seemed to downplay it at the time by simply calling it a favor to his friend, team co-owner Gil de Ferran.

Since leaving Andretti Autosport, his former home of eight years, Kanaan has been linked to several different options — including a stint with Kyle Busch’s team in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. But now it’s sounding more and more like he’s going to stay in the open-wheel world.

Teo Jose, who’s part of the IndyCar TV coverage for Brazil’s Rede Bandeirantes (BAND TV), has posted in his blog that De Ferran will announce the hiring of Kanaan on Monday. Again, this bit of information has been gleaned from putting the piece into Google Translate, so take this for gospel at your own risk. But if what I’m seeing on other Brazilian racing and social media sites is indeed true, then Kanaan will be back on the IndyCar grid in 2011.
