IndyCar to announce ‘future car strategy’ on July 14
The future of the IZOD IndyCar Series is close to being revealed, as the Indy Racing League sanctioning body released a statement today that said details on the league’s next-generation chassis will be announced on July 14.
According to the statement, series officials and members of the League’s ICONIC committee — which has been charged with helping to determine the series’ new engine and chassis formula, starting in 2012 — will not speak about the matter until after the official press conference.
“The ICONIC Advisory Committee continues to work diligently to finalize our future car strategy and a decision is imminent,” said League CEO Randy Bernard. “We look forward to unveiling our plans to our teams, drivers, partners, fans and the media during a special event on July 14.”
Five chassis manufacturers — current supplier Dallara, Swift, Lola, BAT, and Delta Wing — are up for consideration to create the next-gen IndyCar. Dallara’s current chassis has been in use since the 2003 season.
