Andretti Autosport driver is one of 10 semifinalists
Indy Racing Revolution doesn’t cover the Road to Indy ladder system, but that doesn’t mean I’m not keeping tabs. Of course, you gotta pay attention when a talented 15-year-old rips off nine wins and takes a series championship.
Such was the season of Andretti Autosport’s Sage Karam, who set himself up as a driver that can help take IndyCar into the future. The American pilot claimed the U.S. Formula 2000 title and the series’ Rookie of the Year honors this past season.
Now, his accomplishments may earn him a big honor — Karam is one of 10 semifinalists for Sports Illustrated for Kids’ “SportsKid of the Year” award.
He’s got some stiff competition though. A quick glance at the other semifinalists reveal, among others, a U.S. national team swimmer that’s broken more than 50 Colorado records, a Georgia high school track star that set state records as a freshman, and a 7th-grade girl from Minnesota that’s both a nationally ranked USTA tennis player and a hockey champion in her home state.
But you can help Karam out by voting for him on SI for Kids’ website. Semifinal voting will stop next Monday at Noon ET, and the three finalists will be revealed on Oct. 19. From there, the SI editors will pick the winner.
