Sonoma testing shows the best things in life are free

Despite cool temperatures to start the day, an estimated 1,500 fans came out to Infineon Raceway yesterday for a free, first glimpse of the new Dallara DW12s as they were wheeled around by six of the Chevrolet-powered drivers. The track said that it was the highest-attended test of any series in its history.

That decent turnout was one of the main stories coming out of the first day of testing, along with Formula One standout Rubens Barrichello returning for another IndyCar test with KV Racing Technology. Also turning laps were Ryan Briscoe (who netted the top time of the session, a 1:17.49, according to SPEED’s Marshall Pruett), Will Power, E.J. Viso, J.R. Hildebrand, and Ryan Hunter-Reay.

Open Wheel World has a photo gallery from the test, which continues today at Sonoma. KVRT and Infineon Raceway also have a collection of short videos to check out.
