5:55 p.m. — Jaques Lazier averts disaster

A major save in Turn 3 forced Jaques Lazier to head back to the pits before he took the green for his final qualifying attempt. He still has one ‘bullet’ left.

5:53 p.m. — Tracy unable to make it back in

After laps of 223.7 and 223.0 m.p.h. in his second attempt of qualifying, Paul Tracy has waved it off and will try to get back in line for another run before the 6 p.m. ET gun. It looks like the decision to withdraw his previous time may cost him a spot in the ‘500.’

5:50 p.m. — Howard unable to bump Tracy

Jay Howard’s four-lap average of 223.610 was unable to bump Paul Tracy, but he’s currently back in the field because Paul Tracy has withdrawn his average and will look to better his previous speed.

5:43 p.m. — Sato bumps Howard

After Milka Duno waved off her attempt after two laps, Takuma Sato was able to bump off Jay Howard and put Paul Tracy on the bubble. Sato put up a four-lap average of 224.178 m.p.h. Tracy’s current average is at 223.892 m.p.h.

5:30 p.m. — Kanaan’s in the show

Tony Kanaan has qualified 30th after posting a four-lap average of 224.072 with thirty minutes remaining in Bump Day. Sebastian Saavedra has been bumped from the field.

4:52 p.m. — Bubble boy Saavedra crashes

Sebastian Saavedra is now a sitting duck to be bumped off after a practice crash just minutes ago. The 19-year-old Colombian lost control of the No. 29 Bryan Herta Autosport entry in Turn 1 and backed into the SAFER Barrier, causing major rear-end damage.
